Pure Praise Revamped : “Count Your Blessings”

Pure Praise Week One – Day 4 :  “Count Your Blessings

Rewind

I remember being barely a teenager and leading a small congregation in Adamsville, Tennessee and singing “Count Your Blessings”.

Count your blessings, name them one by one, Count your blessings, see what God hath done! Count your blessings, name them one by one, And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.

I’m sure you remember the song.  Some of you may still sing it in your congregations today.  It’s got such a cheerful melody to it…but are all blessings “cheery”?  1 Thessalonians 5:18 has some powerful words:

give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Notice, though, that the verse never says “give thanks when things are going well for you”.

Revamp

It’s easy to say “thank you” to God when everything is running like clockwork, when you get a raise, when you’re child is born healthy…but God gives us those chances to connect with Him in a whole new level when we are thankful when our world is falling apart.

When we are honestly and openly willing to worship God in all circumstances – then we are worshipping God upwardly.

Rekindle

Think of a situation when things didn’t go as planned.  When was your life at its absolute worst?  Did you thank God for the circumstance?  If not…what can you think of in retrospect  are you thankful for as a result of the situation?  What could you have been thankful for during the situation?
