Do You KNOW That Your Redeemer Lives?

When you sing worship songs – or any song for that matter – do you just sing the words…or do you really meditate upon what the song trully means? I want to share with you some thought that I shared with a friend of mine online last night who was having some issues with his some trials. This thought focuses around an awesome Nicole C. Mullen song “Redeemer”.

Let’s think for a moment beyond the music, beyond the amazing voice that Nicole has -and go deeper into what Nicole was worshiping about when she wrote the song. You see, Nicole wasn’t the original author of the words “My Redeemer Lives!” … Job was!

“For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the
earth. And after my skin has been thus destroyed, yet in my flesh I shall see
God, whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another. My
heart faints within me!” (Job 19:25-27 ESV)

To understand how important Job‘s statement is, we have to understand where Job is coming from. Most of us understand that Job has just been through deep grief and is about at the end of his rope at this point – yet Job still proclaims “I know that my Redeemer lives!”

What is trully amazing about this is the sheer amount of faith that Job has. No, this isn’t normal faith. You see, Job is believed to have been one of the first books of the Bible written. There was no Matthew….no Mark…no Revelation. There was no series of sermons that Job got to go to hear that Christ was born, died, buried, rose and ascended to Heaven to prepare a place for him. Job didn’t get the memo that his Redeemer conquers death in the end and that no matter what he does – no matter how weak or little he does…CHRIST’s grace and Love is sufficient. No – Job knew one thing:

Job Loved God. Job believed that no matter what happened to him – his Redeemer lived.

Wow! How awesome would it be to have THAT kind of faith to NOT be that certain of the outcome, yet be that confident of our love of God and Jesus that we could say, in the midst of troubles, “MY REDEEMER LIVES!”
