For quite a few days, the blog has been silent. It’s probably appropriate and in proper relation to life – because I have been equally as silent. For about the past month I have dealt with a strange virus that has had me dealing with doctors, urgent care clinics, emergency rooms, and hospital visits and having no voice. My wife has been dealing with much of the same – so prayers for the family are readily accepted. I bring this strangity up for good reason. The more I sat here today after a long afternoon, evening, and night at the hospital – the more I have stumbled across a reality about my own illness…and how it relates to my own humility and servitude.
Next week – I hope to begin a series that will expose this humility in the hopes of helping others in a series called “The Air I Breathe”. Before we do – I want to ask that each of you look at an article I wrote back at Thanksgiving. It will become a strange forshadowing to this series…and a lesson that I needed to have heeded myself.
Take a look at the very short article here: “Breathe”

Each year, we review things that we feel are relevant to worship leaders, pastors, churches, and worship teams – and bring you a list of those we feel are the “Best of the Best”. Over the next two months, we will bring you the winners that we have selected over the year 2011.
Our first winner is in the category of “Best All-Round Website”. The winner this year is a site that has evolved from one website – to many – back to one quintessential website for those who…well…for just about everyone! www.churchm.ag covers every area of church relevance from IT to creative and everything in between. The geek-at-heart will be pleased with the humor and off-the-wall news items that the writers at the site come up with – and there is no shortage of resources found there that will leave you saying “why didn’t I think of that/find that/create that!”
If you’ve never visited the site before – I highly encourage it. You’ll find ways to make your church’s website and social media tons more relevant and find ways to boost the efforts of your creative team. It won’t take long to learn why they are the clear choice for the 2011 “Best All-Round Website” Award from got worship?.

It happens…the hectic week of life shows up at your door all at once and you barely have time to prepare a worship service – and that perfect song that you had envisioned singing doesn’t get planned out. You show up at rehearsal – and your team looks to you for guidance on how the song should be done…”how do we transition to it?” ”who starts it?” ”how do we end it?” ”do we do verse, chorus, verse, chorus bridge?…or do we do verse, verse, chorus, bridge, repeat first verse?” So many questions…and you have zero answers. BUT WAIT!!!! There is a simple answer that makes it sound as if God is in charge of the mess you created…and He will sort is out as if it was ordained to be so disorganized. That simple answer is…

Does your church have a choir? I’m doing some quick research for an upcoming series – and I’d like to engage our readers in a discussion on the following questions:
1. Do you have a choir at your church?
If “yes”…
a…Do you use your choir every week on stage? b…Does your choir use traditional robes? c…What size is your church?
If “no”…
Would you care to share the reasoning why you don’t have a choir? (and what size is your church?)
Your input is appreciated! Take a moment and share your answers in the comment area below. Got some thoughts to share on choirs in general? I’d love to hear them as well.

I hope this video prods you to thought this morning. I’d love to hear your thoughts. Do you think we have, whether intentionally or not, turned corporate worship into some kind of “Worship Industry”? Gives us your thoughts below in our comment section as to why or why not.

I learned a valuable lesson today wasted a lot of time looking at random YouTube videos today. In the process of my “research”, I learned that there are different levels of engagement when it comes to lifting your hands in worship. Listen as Tim Hawkins explains about the various forms and art in hand-raising as well as his thoughts on having “family worship” Sundays.

So you’ve heard a truly awesome song from Hillsong United or Charlie Peacock or you’ve stumbled on the latest song from Carlos Whittaker – now you want to play it Sunday in your lineup. GREAT! Who knows if the Spirit may reach someone in your congregation like it reached you…or is that the reason you want to play it?
Perhaps it has a cool back-beat, and awesome riff for guitar, a melodic line that fits your voice perfectly. If that’s the case, we probably need to re-evaluate doing the song to begin with and this article isn’t for you to begin with.
If the reason is that you honestly feel that the song fits your community (your congregation) – then let’s press on.

We’ve been taking your thoughts for the past couple of weeks on twitter and Facebook about “Things that annoy or distract you in worship” or “Things that your worship leader does to annoy/or distract you.” We will be talking about a few of these from time to time…but first – a little humor on the subject from comedian Tin Hawkins.

I was replying to comments this morning from our recent article on “Coming Out Of The Closet” and was encouraged to hear from one worship leader from North Carolina who wrote about why he frequents gotworship.net:
I love the videos you post from the different churches worship sets. the sharing of ideas with you and Los and the other churches willing to post their videos is a huge blessing. Church helping other churches. Perfect unity. I love this. Thanks for doing what you do. I appreciate it.
I can relate to where his appreciation is coming from. As worship leaders and pastors, we often times find ourselves in a rut…doing the same things in the same ways over and over again because they either “feel right” or because “it’s always just worked” and never venture out. I hear from plenty of worship leaders who are bi-vocational which, lets get real…can often times translate into “I spend the vast majority of my time at my main job and a small sliver as a worship leader….so I am usually throwing together a worship plan at the last minute…often even re-hashing something I did last year or last month.” Continue Reading…

Now that I have your attention…
Carlos Whittaker sure had my attention earlier in the week when he pulled the same stunt at his blog. I will shamelessly admit that I am pulling it here and asking each of you lurkers to “Come Out Of The Blog Reading Closet.” I know that there are plenty of you who read this blog in silence and never say a word. I see the stats. I know you are here. Do me a favor….say “hello”. Take a split second and tell me where you came from…what your background is…what brought you here…what you get out of gotworship.net …or anything you’d like to share in the comments area below!
I’d love to hear from each of you – just to know where we are reaching. Believe me – there are days when I wonder if it is worth continuing to write these articles…to do these videos…to continue this ministry – and yet I see statistics from across the globe of visitors we appear to be reaching. Let me put a pulse to the stats and selfishly feel validated for the work we are doing each day here at gotworship.net .
