It couldn’t happen to you…right? I mean – if worse came to worse…you’d be able to get a job, get a loan, or do whatever it takes to make it work right? You have no idea how hard that process may be – and why your church either A.) needs to have a ministry to help those in need or B.) you need to take a more active role in helping a ministry that does.
Thanks to a website from the Urban Ministries of Durham – you can find out just how hard life could be for you…and become VERY thankful for what you have now.
Article by RebekkahcloseAuthor: RebekkahName: Rebekkah Webber Email: mommies_matter@hotmail.com Site: About: I grew up as an Air Force Brat, following my parents around the world wherever Uncle Sam needed a meteorologist. By the time I started high school we settled down on the campus of Free Will Baptist Bible College in Nashville, TN, where my father went back to school and the rest of us learned how to be a "normal" American family.
During a stint as the assistant to a youth pastor in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, I met Jeff, my husband; we lived in Windsor, Ontario for six years, then Jeff was offered an excellent job that would require us to move. Because of the amount of business travel involved, his answer was no-- we had a two-year-old, an infant, and had just found out that we were expecting a third "bonus" baby.
In a blessed turn of events, his employer wanted him to move to Nashville, TN-- the one place that he felt comfortable leaving his wife on her own with three children, since it was for most purposes my hometown-- and so back to Nashville we came.
The life of a mother of three preschoolers has left little time for personal pursuits, but music and drama, especially teaching, writing, and directing the same, are two of my great passions.
I have also become, through a few God-happenings, a published author at long last. I write preschool Sunday School curriculum for Randall House Publishing, and have hopes of having a collection of children's stories printed soon.See Authors Posts (2) January 21, 2011 in Another thought, Guest Blog, Uncategorized with 1 Comment
Yesterday I heard my son humming in the back of the van. He wasn’t very loud, and I have no idea what the melody was meant to be. What really snagged my attention, other than the fact that no one behind me was picking on anyone else, was that he seemed to be humming the same line over and over. And over. Finally he looked up and, catching my eye in the rearview mirror, said, “Mommy! I just can’t get my head out of this song!”
Later on, recalling this little anecdote and rating it on the “how cute is that scale” all mothers use to prove the wit and worth of their offspring, the thought occurred to me: maybe the little genius had a good point.
What would happen if our lead worshippers got their head out of the song? What if every guitar picker, every soloist, every team member from the lead vocalist for this morning’s choir number to the guy on the far left surrounded by triangles and cowbells stopped stressing each mistake and just gloried in the music? What if, after the hours have been put in at home and the early morning rehearsal has been counterbalanced by three cups of coffee—followed by an emergency bathroom run while you pray that your mic pack really is off—What if we just let go and really worshipped?
You know, if God wants perfection, He can just order up some Mozart over the heavenly PA system. He’s got David and Gabriel and Rich Mullins up there with Him if He’s in the mood for a harp and trumpet duet or some really great lyrics. He certainly doesn’t need to listen to us just for the sake of our pretty noise. What He really wants, what He craves, is our unfettered, unworried, unhampered worship. He created each of us, knowing we would become who we are. He gave us our gifts and our talents, some in limited quantities and others in abundance. He desires our excellence, absolutely. But much like my son, humming away at a tune no one could identify other than himself, how much more joy would there be if we could allow ourselves to truly worship: flat notes, missed cues, broken strings included. How beautiful would that music be to an adoring God who would much prefer that we have our soul in our song, rather than our head.

Blame it on my dad…I’m a steak guy. I love steak…and I learned how to grill them from the best. My dad grilled steaks for us multiple nights during the week and always cooked them the same way…perfect.
It wasn’t until I started entertaining guests in my own house that I slowly realized my definition of “perfect” isn’t the same as the next guys. For me…it’s a steak cooked “medium”. For the next person, it may be “well-done”. For someone else, perfection may very well be pretty close to standing on four legs while “mooing”. Continue Reading…

(I originally posted this article in May of 2009. Recently, a gotworship.net reader reminded me of the video in an email. I watched the video again – and smiled. I love that God loves us….and I hate that I am sometimes resistant to giving Him everything when He already owns it all.)
Ephesians 2:10 tells us we are God’s own handiwork…his workmanship…his masterpiece. This subject has been one that has been on my mind for a while now, because it is easy to see ourselves as so ugly in the eyes of God – yet forget that He sees the beauty within.
Take a moment – uninterupted – to just meditate on this video. Listen to the words…and know that you are a masterpiece to God. embedded by Embedded Video
