Worship Tech: Turning Your Music Pages – Hands Free

We are blessed with the privilege of getting to try-out all kinds of gadgets, instruments, and software that may be beneficial to worship pastors/leaders here at gotworship.net .  Many times, there are products that simply stand out because of their awesomeness – but sometimes the best products we get are the items that go un-noticed.

Distractions are all around us in worship from the moment we hit the church doors.  As worship leaders and worship musicians – it can be very easy to become distracted by…well…just about anything.  Having to take the time to do one more thing like turning a simple page on a simple piece of sheet music can sometimes be enough of a distraction itself.

Enter…the AirTurn BT-105.  This little pedal is a great compliment to those of us who use an iPad or computer on stage and need to be able to flip through things like charts or lyric slides without having to use our hands.

To test it out…we gave it to one of our many talented keyboardists and asked him to use it during a recent Sunday service.

As you can see – just having such a simple device can be a huge addition to the current technological advances in worship such as PlanningCenter’s Music Stand.

The device itself is compact and very portable.  It comes with a convenient charger and instructions for how to sync it with your preferred device.  After a quick Bluetooth pairing – you are on your way to hands free page-turning in a snap!

No more fumbling with an iPad page while trying to play guitar or piano.  Even if you have the act down to a science and can keep playing, turn a page, and get back to playing without skipping a beat – the simple distraction it takes from your congregation’s point of view of “what is he/she messing with” can be enough of a distraction.  The AirTurn eliminates the effort.

While we’ve only addressed the Planning Center app, there are a growing number of iPad, Android, Mac and PC apps that the AirTurn BT-105 can be used with.

Pro’s:  Distraction free page-turning.  Works with most popular worship apps.  Small and portable.  Black and low profile (not an eye-sore).

Con’s:  Instructions aren’t the clearest to follow – but a little common sense on the user’s part will make set-up a snap!

Overall take:  Worth a “got worship? Media Seal of Approval”!

New Tuner Comes In A Small Package

I must admit – I love opening the mail I get from Planet Waves.  There is always something lurking in each brown box that screams “This-should-have-been-invented-a-decade-ago” …and I get the privilege to try it out and tell you all about it.  One of those new toys is the NS Mini Headstock Tuner.  Personally, I have never found a micro/headstock tuner that I have liked.  They have either failed in a loud stage setting or just not had any accuracy that I would expect.  This one has shredded my mini headstock tuner phobias and stereotypes. 2010 “Best of Worship” Awards – Guitar Edition

2010 has been a great year for innovations in technology, instruments, and materials that have an impact on worship and worship music.  It is no surprise that this year’s “Best For Worship” Awards were hard to pick.

We had the pleasure of testing these products ourselves over the past year.  In addition, we sent several of the products on the road to tour with some of the biggest names in CCM, sent them to churches with worship pastors to let them “play”, and even found a few that we loved enough to add them to our own arsenal.  No more waiting…here are the final results! Review: Westone AC-2

Today marks a new era for worship leaders and worship musicians – an era that your ears can truly be thankful for.  Today marks the day when the all-new Westone AC2 hits the market for public sale.  Westone announced the new dual-driver custom in-ear last month for less than $400 bucks and we were hooked.  When we got the honor of being one of the first BETA testers of the AC2 – we were elated…especially when we heard the value that came in such a small $399 package.

Thinking about getting a pair of in-ears?  Hopefully this review can help guide you to one of my new favorites.   Continue Reading…

REVIEW: Guitarmann.com

So you’ve decided to pick up the guitar and learn to play – yeah…that one that’s been sitting in your closet for years that “one day” you were going to learn to play.  Perhaps you’ve played for years but you feel that you lack technique.  Maybe you’re the type of guitar player who plays by ear…but cringes when someone tells you “play a Asus- D – progression” – because you haven’t got a clue what any of that means.  Sure, you could play itonce you heard it the first time – but what if? REVIEW: Luna Trinity Guitar

It is a thing of beauty when a guitar can look unique, sound great, and still cost a reasonable amount.

Now, there is a new definition for "thing of beauty"…and it is called a Luna Trinity.

I’ll be honest, this guitar has had its ups and downs during the time that we’ve had it to play.  The good news is, the down moments were in the very beginnings and a mere result of our outrageous expectations.  The end result has been a guitar that we are proud to endorse here at got worship? Media and is, quite possibly, a perfect guitar for the worship leader or acoustic worship guitarist who wants to have a great looking and great sounding guitar without taking out a second mortgage.

REVIEW: Carlos Whittaker – Ragamuffin Soul

Carlos Whittaker is a name known to most of us in the worship realm – but he is known to us by many different names.  Whether he is "Carlos", "Los", "loswhit", or "that bald guy with the tats that hates meatloaf" – one thing is for sure…the boy can sing.

Ragamuffin Soul, his debut release on Integrity Records, is a reflection of all that is Carlos: a deep love of God, a call to worship, and an anthem for the less than perfect people in the world.

Follow his blog for more than a week and you will tell that the album reflects how he lives – and it’s a vision he hopes the rest of us will catch.

“My desire is to create a movement of authenticity among Christians,” says Whittaker. “A movement that pushes people into a place of being real with themselves, others, and God. It’s all about authenticity.  And in that authenticity, finding God.”

His album echoes the same authenticity, such is the song "No Words" which calls the believer to action rather than a vocabulary – the antithesis of some of today’s popular commentary.  Other songs, like "God Of Second Chances", speak of a genuine God who loves and and "still romances."

The album is more than amply appropriate for most modern worship venues and is available on iTunes or by clicking the link below!
