We’re giving away free shirts!
Over the past few weeks – I have taken great pride in seeing something around the Nashville area. In three different venues I have seen people up on stage wearing a “got worship?” t-shirt from the website. It makes me smile to know that there are people out there supporting the site and it’s vision.
It is because of that vision – and “spreading the love” that I want to put our “got worship?” t-shirt in the hands of 10 lucky people for FREE!
What’s the scoop? It is easy! We want you to take the name of got worship? out into the communities and make a difference. Leave us a comment below to let us know that you want a shirt and how you plan to make a difference. We will pick 10 winners at random and send shirts to you Priority Mail. We only ask two things of you: 1.) help us in this by covering the shipping and handling costs and 2.) snap a picture or a video of you sporting your shirt in worship, rehearsal, or serving the community.
We will take your pictures and videos and feature them here on got worship? in a future date.
Want a shirt? Ready? Set? GO!

Free Music Tuesday : Children of Light

This week’s “Free Music Tuesday” comes from an album that I highly encourage each of you to implement within your own churches as its songs are wide-reaching and ring true. You’ve heard me talk about LifePoint Illuminate: Children of Light over the past month or so – and this week’s free music comes from Children of Light.
“I See The Poor” is, quite possibly, one of the most life-changing songs on the album. It is a call to forget about ourselves for a moment and realize that there are so many starving, dying, without parents, homeless, abandoned, and waiting for someone…us…to help. One of the co-writers of the song, Micah Huebner, explains the background of the song:
I encourage you to download the song– Share this link with others– Implement these songs in your own church (chord charts can be found at www.lifepointmusic.com)– but most important…find away to make a difference in the world today. “I cannot sit here and do nothing!”

Beyond The Radio Waves : Josiah Warneking – Sixteen Cities

Long before I ever performed a concert or wrote my own song, I was a worship leader. I didn’t have dreams of touring the country or hearing my music on radio stations. All I knew was that God deserves to be worshipped, and I wanted to use my gifts to praise Him. For me, singing was a way to truly express my heart to God. I wasn’t even a very a good singer at the time, but I had a passion to worship.
It is because of this desire to praise God that I started leading worship on my public school campus. This student-led ministry was actually the beginning of my band, Sixteen Cities (three of our members were a part of this ministry in high school). We would basically gather every Wednesday morning before school to sing songs and pray together. It was a way to unify the believers on our campus, and encourage one another to be unashamed of our faith and share about Jesus in our school. We believed so strongly in this ministry that we dedicated ourselves to promoting it on our campus, even though our peers would often ridicule us for our zeal. However, we didn’t mind, because we knew God had called us to reach our friends by glorifying God.
This was my background in worship music. I never really thought about radio singles or WOW Worship compilation CDs. I didn’t know about CCLI or GMA. All I knew is that worship songs connected me to God in a way like nothing else could.
After high school, we formed Sixteen Cities as a full-time music ministry, touring the country, leading worship, and ministering to students. We began writing our own songs and eventually signed a record deal with Centricity Music. I was slowly being introduced to the Christian music industry as a whole. At times I would see things that were disheartening, but I also discovered some amazing ways worship music is being spread throughout the world. I realized how Christian radio plays an important role in unifying the body of Christ, and giving worship leaders new songs to introduce to their churches. It’s amazing how congregations all over the world can join together in the same songs of praise to God.
Of course there are parts of the music industry that are far from perfect, and it could be easy to become jaded and skeptical. But I’ve always tried to remain optimistic and trust that God will be God regardless of our iniquities. The Bible says that “even the rocks will cry out” if we do not praise Him (Luke 19:40 NIV).
So whether it’s blasting from radio towers across the nation, or resonating from our hearts, God in worthy of our worship.
Josiah and the other members of his band are an amazing group of leaders with hearts that, I feel, are in the right place with worship. I am honored that they are willing to take time out of their schedule to spend a little devotional time with our readers to pour out their thoughts on worship. We encourage you to check out his band, Sixteen Cities, (follow them on Twitter @sixteencities ) and – thanks to their record label (Centricity Music) – we have an opportunity for your to win one of three autographed CD’s of the self-titled album, Sixteen Cities. Common Ground : Guest Blog from Josh Miller (Sixteen Cities)

It’s powerful to think that when you start a song as a worship leader on Sunday morning, there are hundreds of thousands of people throughout the country worshipping at the same time. Many will even be singing the same songs, some reading the same verses, and all glorifying the same God. It’s an amazing privilege to be a part of it. I go to a fairly small church of about 150 people, where I know most people by name, and most would also know me. You walk into church, and you feel like you’re a part of a community.
Sunday morning services, however, are only a part of my ministry as a musician. Most days are spent travelling throughout the country, putting on concerts, worship events, and conferences. We perform in front of thousands of people a month, playing in churches, schools, and auditoriums. These events are quite the contrast from my weekend church service experience! The sound system shakes the walls, the lights turn the stage into a psychedelic oven, and the energy in the room is electric. Kids everywhere are jumping up and down, screaming at the top of their lungs, searching for a way express the excitement they feel. These are powerful nights. There’s nothing more thrilling than to see thousands of young hands raised in worship to our Creator.
As a part time worship pastor, and a full time Christian artist, it can be difficult to find cohesion between these two worlds! Saturday nights I’m being pressed for photographs and autographs. Sunday morning I fellowship with people I’ve known for years, able to invest in deep and long term relationships. They know me for me. Even the worship experience is different! Our church services look little like a concert, and much more like a community gathering. We’re much less concerned with energy, and much more focused on intimacy.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my experiences in these worlds, it’s that music is a tool to facilitate worship, not worship in and of itself. Regardless of what style the services is, what kind of atmosphere or demographics, our job as worship leaders is to give glory to God. It’s important to have that be our focus, in whatever atmosphere we find ourselves in.
1 Corinthians 9:22-23
22 When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some. 23 I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings.
Paul’s talking about a willingness to do whatever it takes to lead people to Christ. As a worship leader and artist, I believe my job is to find common ground with those I’m there to serve, and to do the same thing Paul is taking about. And as followers of Christ, we should always be on the lookout for ways to bring others closer to Him. Whether you’re leading for thousands or for one, the purpose is the same.
HIM
We are thankful for Joshua’s willingness to share his insight into the dual role he plays as both worship pastor and entertainer with our readers at gotworship.net .
