The bottom line…we all worship something…and it IS our job to go "into all the world" to help point others towards the proper focus of worship…God.

Sounds like the great commission to me!

Aha!! Now we are making head way! Missions exist because worship doesnt. We are all made to worship. We can skip past the lengthy discussion where I hash out that worship is not just songs…worship is an intentional act to "something". That being said…not all worship is to God. You (a person in general…not any specific reader) may not worship God…but you sure worship SOMETHING. A person in a third-world country with no outside knowledge of God still worships something. The fellow sitting two houses down from you who has never stepped foot in a church nor has a firm grasp of God or His love may worship the television.

The bottom line…we all worship something…and it IS our job to go "into all the world" to help point others towards the proper focus of worship…God.

I disagree.. I don't know why GOD would want man and the church to not have the same role. It seems to me like one would just become the other. Mission cannot happen without worship that is for sure! A good example is our choir cause we are a Worship choir and missionarys. We already did mission work in Montana and we have something (not sure what- big secret) for 2011. I'm excited! It's such a great discussion!

I don't want the point to be escaped, Becky. Believe me…the subject of missions is huge at my church as well as we are embarking on a HUGE missional undertaking in several countries – even going as far as establishing church campuses in several campuses.

The point of the statement is still true. Note that Piper never said "Don't concentrate on missions". We are created to worship. In the beginning, before the Great Commission, there was worship. My pastor puts in a great way when he says that "when I get to Heaven, my job is over…but those guys who are worship leaders will still have a job."

Now…lets evaluate.

Well, Piper has done much more study than I on the subject. My feeling, though, is that we are sent to bring the gospel to the world. We are sent on a mission to bring the gospel. As that gospel infects, then worship happens with more people, not just the messengers. This statement from Piper is sorta like opening up a can of worms and giving us a chance to argue semantics. I cannot recall a situation where God sent teams of people to worship Him. He did however send people to bring the "good news". The flip side is that man was created to glorify and worship God. So does the church and man have 2 different roles? I say yes.

I see his point, but I can't agree with that completely. Without mission, we aren't doing what God commissioned us to do. We all go to church to Worship God, but I honestly don't think God wan't that to be our soul purpose. It's insteresting,because I recently had GOD revel part his his plan to me and I had to really think about it . I thought it was going to be more about worship but instead, it's more about my own mission and how to reach out to the world for Jesus. God wants us to worship him without a doubt, and we are to do worship him with songs of prasise but it can't just stop there, without missions, a church will die. I cannot believe this was posted Today of all days, this was the subject of last weeks sermon. WOW!
